I am on a mission to see that not one more coal fired power plant is built in the US. Join up with me in my mission and together we can spread the word about how to combat global warming.
On a Mission to Save the World
I'm on a mission to spread the word about what needs to be done to win the fight against global warming. You can find more details at my blog, but I'll elaborate here further. If you want to get involved, please email me and I'll share with you the different ways you can help.

"This is serious," is a total understatement. We are in big big big trouble if we don't act now. I'm not trying to hype this, or blow it out of proportion. If we don't make drastic changes in the next few years, there won't be anything we can do to stop global warming. We are in the 11th hour as it were. Please do not make light of what I'm about to tell you.

"According to a recent report by The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), we have only eight years left to take action before the affects of global warming become to sever to reverse." Quote from my Blog.

This has been all over the news lately, and various groups have been holding conferences to discuss the findings in the report. Environmental Agencies are prioritizing what changes need to occur first, what resources it will take, and how long we have to make those changes. I have some suggestions, but they may seem a little harsh:

1. Every single inefficient
(gas guzzling) vehicle in the world must be parked permanently, immediately. Only Hybrid, extremely fuel efficient (50 mpg), and electric cars should be allowed on the road. To accomplish this, the Federal and State governments will have to provide mass transit to every citizen. The mass transit will have to be powered solely by Green Energy sources like wind or solar power. This is hard to imagine, but it is a reality.

2. Every coal fired power plant in the world must be brought off-line as soon as possible. A union of renewable energy sources will have to be made in order to replace the lost power to citizens. The government will have to sponsor the mass production of clean energy through large scale manufacturing of equipment and green power plants.

3. There must be a global halt on all production of chemicals that harm the environment in any way. PVC and the like will have to become a thing of the past. Every single manufacturer in the world will have to switch to recyclable, biodegradable, re-usable and renewable materials and production methods. Any workers displaced by this will have to be sponsored into new jobs helping to build our new energy efficient infrastructure, and/or building clean energy equipment.

4. This one will be really hard to swallow for some. Everyone in the world will have to switch to an almost entirely vegan diet, and only buy groceries that are grown
or produced locally. Not only that, but all meals should be prepared by groups of people. Friends, families and neighbors will have to get together and make breakfast, lunch, and dinner with one another whenever possible. Communal dining saves more energy then you would guess by having less ovens, dishwashers, and water heaters running. Vegan eating means no more large scale cattle farms (one of the biggest methane producers), and less refrigeration of food.

5. Everyone in the world must take part in these changes. No one is exempt. It doesn't matter how wealthy or poor you are, what walk of life you come from, or how many friends in high places you have; every single person is responsible for what happens to this planet. We all must work together if we want to be able to act in time.

There are many other things we can do to lessen our impact on the planet. I invite you to leave your ideas / suggestions and tell your friends to as well. It is so vitally important that everyone knows about this and that we start acting now. Please send me a message if you need help deciding where and how to start.

I hope you and yours are well.

Take care,
Scott Riedy

Hi Scott,

You present some amazing ideas. I can see why these would all be important to do, but we're a remarkably stupid and stubborn people. Do you think we can make these sorts of wholesale changes in time? Are there smaller steps we can take to start on the right path? I look forward to reading more of your blog and learning more.

the mass transit idea works in the cities, but get me out 50 miles from my work and its NOT feasible. there is a bus that goes from about 10 miles to my house to my work, but it doesn't run at proper times. I can either get to wok or home from it. adjusting the work schedule won't fly either as its a hospital and people are sick 24-7! Plus even the hybrids don't get 50+ mpg yet!

Hi Scott,

I am unable to do much from where we are but we try to do our little bit and recycle where we can.. the little things each individual can do to use less energy and recycle may be of no significance but if more and more people are involved in all areas of the globe.. it will have a major influence.

I agree many good ideas. Also cost is an issue, and ability to travel. As i have fibermyalgia I would not be able to walk the mile to the busstop every time I needed to get somewhere.
I think govt shouldve been doing alot more thinking ALOT sooner than this!

If all we have is 8 years before the effects of global warming are irreversable, then we are in a lot of trouble.

I have watched for the last 8 years as companies in Ontario, Canada try to get approval to install large scale wind turbines. They are constantly being met with people who do not want those large towers installed in their back yards. People who think that the turbines are going to change the wind patterns and therefore alter our weather patterns. People who are concerned with the effects on migratory bird paths and the number of birds that will be killed from these turbines. People who are ocnerned with the noise created by these turbines and the stress accompanied with that noise.

I guess what I am trying to say is that with the nature of the Beast(Humans) we are screwed if 8 years is all we have. The only way you could implement the stategies above is through a tyrannical take over of all the governments of the world and then force feed it to the populace.

Hopefully I am not being too negative here - it is not my intent.

What I can encourage, is anyone who is looking at replacing their heating and or cooling system in their home to do so using a geo thermal system. By extracting the relatively constant temperatures of the earth to heat and cool your home you would reduce your consumption of energy to do so by roughly 50-70%. This is the equivalent of taking 2 automibiles off the road in relation to co2 emmissions.

If you live in Canada, the federal governmetn will give you a $3500 grant to help cover the costs of installing Geo Thermal and I know in Ontario the provincial government will match that grant - bringing the amount of government assistance up to $7000. The average cost of a geo thermal system in Canada is between $15,000 - $25,000 and with the government grants taken into account, your financial payback can be anywhere form 5 - 10 years.

If you want mroe information on these systems - feel free to message me. I start wo

To get rid of gas vehicles is not on the governments agenda. The reason being they get too much revenue from fuel tax. The US government stopped the production of electric cars as to many people were inquiring about them.

Hi Scott I went to Mazama too. I am glad to meet you. I am glad I got a friend in the Green Revolution. Solar is great. I am involved in cutting automotive emissions...mike

Hi Scott.Great blog. I don't think people understand how serious an issue this is. We definitely need to make drastic changes, now. First, and foremost our government has to change its environmental policies.

Hi Scott great blog. I am also involved in the Green Revolution. it needs to happen. Cutting emissions is what I am focusing on. We are wasting fuel. Harmful emissions are being released with untreated fuel. I know of a company that makes a product that really cuts emissions and it saves gas and improves performance...mike

Well this is excellent and i want to see if i can bring some of my eco warrior friends from myspace to read your blog, any suggestions. i already know that myspace is threatened and i have told some of my best eco warrior friends but if they saw people like you then perhaps they might make time in their busy schedules, do you have a non yuwie site that can lead people here? That is what i did today is add my blog to two links that are neither yuwie or myspace. nan

Hi Mike,
Thank you for the enlightenment. If we only have 8 years before global warming sets in, we are in big trouble. I'm working to do my part by reducing trips as possible, recycling as much as possible, plus using CFL where ever I can get away with it.
It really irks me when I see a product that has so much extra needless packaging that will end up in the trash.

Enjoyed your blog.

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I found your blog very interesting. It would also help if people would start raising responsible/ aware children so they may have a chance at learning from our mistakes. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Bro

Is Al Gore a Yuwie member ? He should be in this blog to hear what you have to say....

I support your work very much, I am not very good in expressing my thought but I have to say that you have a heart for everyone on this planet. Keep up the good work and may the force be with you forever. I am currrently doing other forms of activities such as helping the poor & needy within our community. Both of us have something in common - We do it from our heart, every small effort will double into huge result. so hang in there !
