Yuwie's referral system and my problem with it
I have been a member of Yuwie for long enough time now to get some idea of how it works and what I like and don't like. I'm going to write about Yuwie's referral system in this post.

As you probably know (and if you don't, check this FAQ post or watch the movie), Yuwie has 10 referral levels. The percentage of page view rewards across them looks like this:

Level Your Percentage
You 10%
1 10%
2 10%
3 4%
4 4%
5 4%
6 4%
7 4%
8 10%
9 10%
10 30%

10 referral levels basically make Yuwie a MLM (multi-level-marketing) program. I don't like this system, and I don't like MLM in general. The problem is, you get little rewards for your personal page views and big rewards for recruiting. Now, that would be allright with me if we had 1 or 2 referral levels, but it makes no sense to reward you with, say, 10% of 8th level referrals page views, when you probably had absolutely no play in recruiting them.

The ideal system for me would be something like 85% personal rewards, 10% first level, and 5% second level rewards. You have control over first 2 levels of referrals and are able to help them recruit - unlike those in 4th level and higher. This way much more money would be distributed to reward personal page views, but recruiters would still be rewarded as well. Actually, it would reward recruiters who find direct referrals even more, rather than those who got lucky in recruiting a good marketer in their 4th level or higher.

According to the table, you will make 3 times more from page views of a person in your 10th level (you probably will have no idea who he is or who recruited him) than you will make from your own page views. That hardly looks fair to me. Also, this is what makes trying to generate your own page views (by posting notices or asking to take a look at your blog) futile. You hear me, notice spammers? You'll just end up making more money for someone else. What you should do is start recruiting your own downline, if you have any plans to make money with Yuwie. It's another matter if you just joined to get in touch with your friends. In that case, you probably won't pay any attention to money making and if you make anything, it will be just an added bonus to you.

Personally, I joined Yuwie just for the money making opportunity. While I don't like the referral system, I still can make use of it. I'll just have to concentrate on building my downline.

great point.you got to think that yuwie believe not many will fill up the tree to level ten.as you say you try to work with the first tree levels, build up a friendship and spend a lot of time on your own views, you get 10%.but the referrals you dont know make you the most cash.

Very good analyse Chadrew.
I would like to object something.
If Yuwie was applying your system, it would look less attractive because with less potential, so recruiting would be made more difficult, since Yuwie is not so well done in terms of interface.
To have the same revenue, you would need to have theses 88000 people in your first 3 levels, which is practically impossible.
Also if you add 100+10+5%, that's 115%, would Yuwie be willing to loose money on its business ?

Appart from that, your post is great and I totally agree that personal views should be higher than this 10%
I would suggest keeping 10 levels but sharing this way
That would encourage people to work on personal views, and that would keep the possibility of filling up the level 10 with a high number of people

Good point Marco, allow me to correct that (hehe). 85%+10%+5%. that's better.

The problem with that system Marco is that people would reallt focus on their pages and stop referring.
Actually that is happening. I think the best will be like this: Fir Yuwie growth and the user.
Level 0 10%
Level 1 20%
Level 2 30%
Level 3 20%
Level 4 10%
Level 5 10%

That's it. This way you will really grow horizontally, and help out your level 1, this would have encourgaed a lot of people that quit. And would encourage you to keep recruiting for that level 3 optimum

Hi and thanks for your comment Jaime.
I have to disagree with you somewhat though, even if referral system only had 1 or 2 levels, I'm sure people would still refer others. It would just reward people who get a lot of direct referrals more.

And it doesn't mean members would make less. Yuwie profits would stay the same. It just means they would be distributed differently.

thats true in any system that offers a considerable % to your referrals will encourage mass recruiting.
Even if it was 90% yours and 10% level 1, if you recruit more than 10 you will still be winning.

So in any case any MLM encourages and rewards good recruiters, that is the nature of it.

I have absolutely no idea how to get referals anyway, and am very confused by the percentages. Oh well, if I do make anything I suppose it will be a bonus.

You will find your referral URL in your control panel - anyone who visits it and signups for Yuwie, will become your referral. As for getting them to visit and signup, well, that's the hard part of it :)
I think there are some clubs on Yuwie which are supposed to help with that.

The problem with your idea, Chadrew, would be that there would be no leverage, which is how the big incomes are earnt through MLM. That is how the passive income is derived, that is the whole beauty of the structure... The ones on your Level 10 will get paid when they have a Level 10, too, that ensures the site grows as there is always incentive... This is a business about duplication and leverage and not about being paid for your personal effort, but for the effort of those whom you recruit.

anyway I look at it, i'll still recruit anyway. =) but they should change the percentages and I like some of the input people have commented in this blog.
